About Panelli

A comic reader that keeps your pages yours.

Panelli opens comics and page images right in your browser, and binds loose images into a single .pne book. Nothing you open is uploaded, to anyone. It's a tool, and what you read with it stays your business.

Private by constructionYour files are read and stored on your device. There is no account, no upload, and no server that ever sees your pages.
An open book formatA .pne is an ordinary ZIP of your page images plus a small manifest. Rename it .cbz and other comic readers open it too.
Reads what you have.pne, CBZ, CBR, ZIP, folders of images, or a few loose pages. Large books open without loading the whole file into memory.
Made for small printPress and hold on a page to magnify it. Single, two-page and webtoon layouts; left-to-right or right-to-left.
Panelli is separate from what you put in it.

Adaptor House builds and offers Panelli, and that's where the connection ends. Panelli never sends your files anywhere, including to Adaptor House. Reading, making a .pne, and keeping a library all happen on your device. The only way Adaptor House ever sees your work is if you choose to send it, as described below.

How to

Read a comic

  1. Open Panelli and press + Open, or drop a file onto the page. A folder of images works too.
  2. Turn pages with the arrow keys, the arrows on screen, or by tapping the left and right edges on a phone. Swipe to turn as well.
  3. Change the layout, fit, reading direction and background in settings (⚙ on a phone, or the right-hand panel on a computer).

Read small text on a phone

  1. Press and hold on the page for a moment. A magnifier appears just above your finger.
  2. Slide to read along. Near the top or bottom of the screen it scrolls the page for you.
  3. Let go to close it. Choose a circle, a square, or a wide reading strip, and the strength (2×–4×), in settings.

Make a .pne

  1. Press Make .pne (in the library panel on a phone).
  2. Add your page images and put them in reading order: drag thumbnails, or use ‹ › on each one.
  3. Give it a title, reading direction and layout, then Save .pne. The file is created on your device and downloaded; it's also added to your library.

Already have a CBZ or CBR? Open it, then in the maker press Use open book to turn it into a .pne.

Keep your library

Your library lives in this browser. Clearing site data removes it, and on iPhone and iPad, Safari clears it if you haven't opened Panelli for about a week. Adding Panelli to your Home Screen avoids that. Either way, keep your original files: they're the real copy.

For artists

Send your work to Adaptor House for consideration

If you make comics, illustrated stories or sequential art, Adaptor House would like to see it. Bind your pages into a .pne with Panelli and send it to us. A .pne keeps your pages in the order you intend, with your title and reading direction, in one file we can open exactly as you made it.

Adaptor House publishes to the Adaptor House Standards (AHS-01-0001), which ask that a work's position, sources and transformations be accountable enough for a reader to inspect. You don't need to write an essay. A few honest lines on each of the points below are enough:

01 / POSITION

Where you stand. Who made this, and from what point of view. The Standards don't ask for neutrality, just a declared standpoint.

02 / SOURCE

What it draws on. Characters, stories, references or materials you used that aren't your own, and where they come from.

05 / TRANSFORMATION

What you changed. If this adapts, translates or reworks something else, say what and how.

07 / AI

Any AI involvement. If AI tools contributed to the writing, art or lettering, say where. You remain the responsible author.

08 / REMAINDER

What's unfinished or left out (optional). Work in progress is welcome; tell us what's still to come.

How to send it

  1. Make your .pne in Panelli.
  2. Email it to [email protected] with the subject Panelli submission: your title.
  3. In the email, include your name (or the name you publish under) and your lines for the points above.
Subject: Panelli submission: The Lighthouse Keeper Name: … Position: … Sources: … Transformation: … AI: none / … Remainder (optional): … Attached: The Lighthouse Keeper.pne

Email attachments are usually capped around 25 MB. For a bigger book, upload the .pne to a file-sharing service you trust and send the link instead.

What sending means

  1. Only send work you made or have the rights to send.
  2. Every submission is read by a person. We may not accept it, and we can't promise a reply to every one.
  3. Sending work for consideration gives Adaptor House no right to publish it. If we'd like to publish something, we'll agree the terms with you first.
  4. Your submission travels by your email, not through Panelli. Panelli itself never sends anything.
